False Beliefs

False beliefs.

Rigid Ideologies.

Living your life dishonestly to please others.

Defaulting to fear.

With so little resistance and such obvious peril, we slip into group think, cultish behavior, an untrue life.

These are dilemmas that follow us through time.

Being outside of yourself to know who you are

is treacherous territory

that makes no sense.

Beliefs are not facts. Beliefs can be mechanisms of protection.

Let’s get to the point. What are you trying to protect?

I stand inside myself with residing awareness behind my eyes, the same awareness that resides within you, if you are home.

Are you home?

Do not let fear shut the doors that open to humanity.

Humanity.

One thing I know about the human species, as a whole, is that it behaves utterly inhumane much of the time.

No other animal can be humane or inhumane because they are not human. And we have the gall to assume we are more intelligent than all other species. We call dolphins smart because they understand us…but we can’t understand them.

Sounds like who’s stupid?

Perhaps the word reveals our inability to be human.

We forget that we share this incredible planet with 8.7 million other species. And that is less than one percent of all species who have ever lived. Many species have come and gone. So will we.

The myth of being the chosen ones with dominion is a false belief. It has never worked and never will, but it took this long or maybe it will take even longer yet for us to realize, as a whole, that our humanity lies within our autonomy paired with our compassion; that each of us is whole and complete and that all of us are one.

What will lead us to that final decision of letting go of hate, letting go of thinking we are in control? We are obviously not in control.

I need to take a breath.

Not sure if these words are expressing clearly what I am feeling, not sure you are hearing what I am saying. not sure if I am sure of anything.

I do know there is a quiet hum in this room and the corners of the window are covered in ice crystals. The morning’s sun rays touch the tops of the cottonwood trees. Emerald and gold light radiates back to that solar force. A sweet mutt from Thailand, once a traumatized wild thing, cuddles against my leg on the couch. If I am quiet, I can hear in the distance, the cat purring in my empty bed. The smell of coffee and the frost outside on the rooftops remind me of holidays when family gathers and we play cards and get in each other’s way in the tiny kitchen. There’s soup on the stove, cinnamon rolls in the oven. We are all safe with everything we need to live a good life. I look into my daughters eyes and see the eternal child she is to me. I see every child in the world looking into their mothers eyes and I pray for their safety and peace. I pray for Humanity.
