Dreams

Hello dear friend,

Just rising from a restless sleep; tossing and turning, fading and waking, this dog, then the other, then the kitten pouncing on undercover toes. I have come to appreciate a sleepless night filled with waking moments that become the liminal space where I actually remember my dreams.

Do you remember your dreams? How do you sleep?

I dreamt of wild horses trapped in a stable, of 3 mice the color of moonlight climbing out of a hole in the ground. I dreamt of tired men with secrets taking up space, and my dear mother having a garden party in the backyard. Like tarot cards; cryptic messages hidden within the images.

We are like the ocean and the land. When awake, we are sure that things are real and the light of day shows us the truth, but there is another world right here on this planet that we know little about. Our physical bodies don’t live there, can’t go there. So when we sleep and can leave our bodies behind, we dive into that vast ocean of dreaming, witnessing, imaginatively creating and processing all the sounds, colors, light, action, and energies of the waking day. Or is it the other way around?

It may be that the mind is only a portal into what is really true and truly real. We are not the body, are not the mind, not the ego, We are not the story we tell or the character we identify as. Perhaps, we are the ocean itself. Our life is eternal and this waking life is just a pause in between, like a whale coming up for air.
