Dear Friend,

I thought I’d just write you a letter; tell you how I’ve been, what’s going on, what’s ahead, but I’ll first tell you about the weather. The days are getting longer and the heavy rains have spilled into May.Today we have intermittent downpours amidst splashes of sunlight and blue sky until the dark clouds roll up and in bringing the rain once again.

The goats and chickens are living in the mud. I have set up planks and pallets to make a weaving path so that they can cruise around above the mess. The kitten is the new love of my life and the dogs are getting along with him so well. They bring a multitude of smiles and laughter to me on the daily. My little Mexican kitty keeps trying on names that don’t stick. I am patiently awaiting his true name to land. There are more rescues if you are interested in helping out the sister project in Mexico; The Yelapa Animal Project.

This morning, Christmas, the goat, got stuck in the hay feeder that was donated to the sanctuary. SunBlossom Farms handed down an awesome chicken coop and hay trough. My dear friend, Farmer Ted, helped me take it apart and then put it back together. Well actually, I helped him. He owns The Cully Farm Store which you would love to get connected with. That’s where I get all my animal feed supplies, plant starts and I tell ya, Ted is one of my favorite people.

The Hut is really coming along. I know I have been saying that forever it seems, but we will indeed be be together in this magical space on one of these upcoming summer days. It is of the earth and in a way we will be inside the earth when gathering. I love that. It feels like it is a portal of sorts. A place to create, transform, release, and become wise. I will have at least one more small work party and would love it if you could come.

I have been hosting volunteers through this program called Wwoof. The latest person who stayed with me was a wonderful young woman from New Jersey who flew out for two weeks and helped me in exchange for room and board. This is like a dream come true because since my two daughters left home I must confess, empty nest challenges are real. Now I have someone to make granola for and yummy vegan dinners. That part was special. It’s also a dream because I am getting the help I need and she gets to learn all kinds of useful things like how to trim bunnies nails, plant pole beans, distinguish foxglove from comfrey, shovel shit, and build magic huts. It was a valuable and precious exchange. My next volunteer is from Spain. I am grateful for this kind of mutual aid.

I am so grateful. I am grateful for this blue sky and fast moving clouds, for the old barn out back and the neighbors out front. I am grateful for you. Your passion, curiosity, challenges, bravery, vulnerability, and willingness are all blessings to us all. I love you, sweethome

PS. Write me back <3
