The Latest Rescue: The Sweetest Pea

Her human mom was homeless. Died two weeks ago, homeless. The pup, an old pup, probably 13 or something like that, was left on the corner of Church st. and 53rd ave, homeless, with no one.

Two weeks, and not sure if the car accident happened before or after her furever friend died, but the little mutt could barely walk when I approached. With two gashes on her front leg and unable to put weight on her front feet, head hung low, she barked, yet I could see clearly she was just calling out for help.

I found this out from the neighbor who’d put a blanket on a pallet in their driveway for her and said she had been feeding her. I asked her if I could take the dog and she said she didn’t care.

So I picked her up and put her in the truck and brought her home. 4 days of rest here at the sanctuary. She couldn’t walk without great discomfort, but her appetite was good. She slept a lot. I laid beside her often, rubbing her cheeks and brushing her gently. She winced in pain whenever I got near her left shoulder. She appreciated my love, there was no doubt.

On the 4th day, we went to the vet to see if any bones were broken, to tend to the wounds, and see how we could help her. Luckily no bones were broken, but she has some deep injury to her chest where perhaps a car had hit her or she had fallen off of something or who knows? Only the nameless woman who died two weeks ago on the street could tell us. For even if the accident happened after the woman died, her eyes are all seeing now.

The neighbor told me her name was Sweet Pea, so we will continue to call her that, although I am sure she’d be happy with any name because I don’t think she can hear very well. The name fits. She smiles when I sit down beside her and loves a gentle tickle under the chin. She’s got a touch of rough coat whiskers on her wide pittie face. She is black with splashes of white, her hazel eyes glisten in the sunlight.

After we have her healed up and all better, she will be looking for a permanent home. She deserves a safe and peaceful life until she goes the way of her friend.

So please, send Sweet Pea some healing vibes and if you want to come meet her, let me know.
