7. Laghunyasa

The act of living is motivated by the desire to find meaning. On whatever level of awareness connection is what feels correct, aligning, to us. Whether it is a math problem, sex, poetry, making food, a good conversation, feeling the floor below our feet, connection is what makes us feel good. We all seek meaning. Viktor Frankl, a nazi death camp survivor, who wrote the book “Man’s search for meaning” asserts that our primary drive in life is not pleasure but for meaning.

We live in a universe made up of energy and information. We are the bridge that sutures information (Shiva) and (Shakti) and we are also an expression of that union. It is an emanating ripple effect where we are that yet we also the channel for that. The magic of taking information and charging it with energy.

Synchronicity is a perceiving meaning between “inner” reality (dreams, thoughts, emotions) and “outer” reality (the physical world.)

The Mantra, Laghunyasa, is an invocation and commitment to acknowledging and trusting in this relationship of our inner and outer world by recognizing the link between the various elements that support the senses of perception:

The Earth provides us with everything we need to live a good life. We are born of the Earth. This is our home and our life.

Feel the levity in the body and connect to the sky above. The warmth, light, and energy of the Sun is the source of our life. The Earth is completely devoted to the Sun. The Sun’s resonance of light, warmth, and energy are essential to all the life-giving force that express themselves in these perfect conditions.

We could say that the Earth and the Sun are deeply listening and speaking to each other, creating a perfect harmony. In the same way, the practice of mantra can connect us to the perfection of our joy, compassion, love, patience, stability, humor, equanimity: these seed sounds that make up the Universe.

This chant was given to me when I studied Vedic chanting in Chennai India at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram. The sense that it makes, the connection that it expresses, and the love that it awakens is here for you.
